About Me

I'm Tammy, the human behind Weft + Warp Co. based north of Detroit. My favorite activities include napping with the cats, sewing (duh!) and devouring books like I'd never see another one again. I like making bad jokes, laughing at my own bad jokes, and utilizing sarcasm in my everyday vernacular. What you see is what you get.

I have almost 10 years of retail management experience running multi-million dollar stores. But the bigger the store, the more disconnected I felt from the people I was supposed to serve. I needed a change. I needed to feel like I was making some positive impact other than lining someone else's already full pockets. I quit my job with no real plan and struggled for over a year before I found a way forward.

Sewing saved me. I lost my mom to cancer over 15 years ago. I have a horrible memory when it comes to most things, but I still remember playing around in the blue Danish cookie tin filled with her sewing notions. (I now have a tattoo of it on my leg.) This is the one hobby I have ever stuck with and I believe it's because of the memories I shared with my mom.

I started this business during the COVID-19 Pandemic, when many of us were stuck in our homes and missed human interaction. I found that interaction within bagmaking communities and soon developed a love for not only creating, but teaching. My tendency to be blunt, transparent and unafraid to look dumb have helped others overcome their fears of bagmaking, both big and small. I make mistakes with them watching and then we figure out how to fix it together. They realize that everyone has an off day... You just don't always see it when the Facebook posts are shared.

Other things I am passionate about include being an advocate for those with neurodiversity because I fall into that category. If you've watched any of my videos, you may have seen me mention ADHD and living with it. The neurodivergent live in a world not created with us in mind and it can be extremely difficult to muddle our way through.

Mental health is also another topic that is dear to me, and one that is not spoken about often in Asian cultures. It is my greatest hope that I can use this platform and business to help boost the voices of those who need to be heard and coax the lonely souls out of the dark. I'm speaking this into the Universe to make it happen and to hold myself accountable. SELF, DO IT!

I'm pretty much an open book. Maybe sometimes too open! If you have any questions, comments, or concerns, I'd love to hear from you.
